Growing up in a sleepy country town, Cudlee Creek in South Australia's Adelaide Hills on an 80 acre mixed farm molded Daniel's connection with nature.
He started music lessons for a year, age 7, learning from his father, however it wasn't until age 18 that he became passionate about learning the piano. His father, a professional musician with the Australian ABC orchestra, playing live on radio during the 40's & 50's, & weekly T.V show as a session musician in the 60's.
At 19, when analogue synthesizers were hitting the 8O's market, Daniel's ears were opened to these wonderful new sounds. " I would go into Allen's Music, put headphones on, and listen to all the amazing new synths sounds for hours". He carried that fascination over the last 30 years, presently owning a dozen keyboards, each with their unique sound and application in his home studio.
It was at a decision to learn music seriously, culminated in ten years of weekly classical piano lessons, starting on a cheap Bellini organ until a piano could be afforded 2 years later.
His father taught him chords & improvisation & after 2 years of learning, Daniel joined his first working band at 21. "I remember looking in the paper, just wanting to join a working band", 30 years later, after 1500+ gigs, playing keyboards in bands 3 nights a week, experience was gained playing Blues, Soul, Heavy Rock, Folk-rock, plus Originals, in many bars around Adelaide, South Australia. Gigs declined after the recession, however composing utilizing keyboard sequencing achieving a final's placement for 3 entries in the 2000 Australian Song Competition in the electronic section.
Teaching music is another passionate area which he still enjoys today "I love imparting my passion, and knowledge for all styles of music to anyone showing an interest, whether it be a child or adult, feeling a sense of satisfaction with students achievements"
A multi-instrumentalist, he teaches piano, keyboard, guitar, recorders, theory, songwriting, music technology and composition.
Completing a degree in 2020 from the Elder Conservatory of Music, University of Adelaide, in Popular Music & Creative Technologies, a relatively new course.
"This course enabled me to compose, engineer, record, and perform my original music throughout the degree: developing my skills further.
Currently composing Progressive Rock, Celtic /Pagan Folk Rock- music, basing his lyrics on ancestral roots, & futuristic themes. Working on his current album, Journey's, the songs thus far, follows the instrumentation of Violin, Cello, Flute, Recorder, Accordion, fused with a Rock ensemble. The music & period costumes stage show, transports the audience to another time and place, whether to the Medieval past (Witches Rede), present (Crack The Code) or into the future (Earth2.O), each piece
is given a background context to setting the atmosphere.
Currently a Suite is being composed on each planet in a sci-fi hybrid soundtrack genre.
